The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the view was great. The free cocktail and coffee services in the lobby were nice, as well as the free drink bar (including one beer per person) near the entrance to the hot spring. The paid massage service was also good. The meals were decent, especially the grilled beef, which simply melted in my mouth. The restaurant staff welcomed us warmly and provided friendly service.
Cons: The variety of hot springs was lacking, and the view from the hot springs was almost blocked, which was disappointing. The lockers for valuables used combination dials, and foreign guests often didn’t know how to use them, locking their room keys inside and struggling to reopen them. This was a major inconvenience. They should switch to a key-and-wristband system like other onsen hotels.
The room itself felt like an old, once-grand mansion that had seen better days. The furniture had many scratches, and the surfaces were worn and peeling. It made me think it must have been impressive in the past. Still, the room was definitely more spacious compared to other hotels.

**FOR AMERICANS** This is the real experience and extremely authentic. If you are looking for a true traditional Japense onsen, this is for you. Also, be aware that this is not in Nikko proper - and a bit tricky to get to - you need to take a Tobu Nikko train from Nikko to
Kinugawaonsen Station.Be aware that the staff speaks VERY limited English so try to communicate with them ahead of time to plan. They are so kind and helpful and will pick you up from the train station or take you to nearby sites. We did a beautiful hike at a national park nearby and the foliage was beautiful. The food is amazing and included in the price of your stay. This is the real deal - traditional breakfast and dinner with many courses. All the guests were Japense and the onsen was gorgeous and very clean. This is an experience we will never forget and we are so greatful for our time there.

Wonderful greeting to enjoy this beautiful property for a day. The amenities are first rate and meals are clever and service in the restaurant is excellent.
Rooms are a little dated but would not prevent me from booking there again.

The building, food, and staff were all very satisfying!

This is my first time at Kinugawa Onsen.
I looked it up on YouTube and decided on Sanraku.
I guess I arrived late, so I got a call.
I called when I arrived at Kinugawa Onsen and they said they would come and pick me up, which was very helpful!
I think the building is old, but it didn't feel that way.
They offer sweets and tea when you check in.
The woman who explained to me was a foreigner, and I didn't understand a lot of things because she was wearing a mask.
I was surprised that the room was quite spacious, with three tatami rooms.
There were about two types of tea and snacks on the table.
The hot spring water is light, but it makes your skin smooth after a bath.
At dinner, a staff member explains the experience, but he talks to you in a fun way and the food is delicious, so I was very satisfied with the meal!
There was a wide variety of breakfast options and it was delicious.
This cost about 30,000 yen per person, so I was really glad I chose this inn.
I was really grateful that they also took me to the station in the morning.

Great View. Great Food. Comfortable Stay. Friendly Staff

The hotel is right by the river. It has great view. Staff was friendly. Food was tasty and it was presented beautifully. Each dinner meal came with a paper menu. The menu was a piece of art. You could frame it and hang on your wall if you like. I enjoyed every meal. My room was clean and comfortable. The onsen facility was excellent, open and airy, quiet. It provided everything needed.
Only thing I wish is the staff could speak better English.
