Overpriced and uninformed staff..check elsewhere
There was a big sign in front of the check in desk..$17 to the airport.. I inquired at the desk and he shrugged and said google it
I am from Canada and paid $120 a night for a single room..which wasn't much bigger than a closet.. shared bathroom and shared kitchen..
I was invited by a maori family to stay .. was refused refund because I didn't give 24 hour notice.. which was supposed to be 10 AM I informed that at 3PM in the afternoon.
They did refund one night which was $82.. when I inquired about the price difference they responded with " I do not know"
I walked by other Hostels and the guests were playing pool and guitar.. young and old were breaking bread.. very social type atmosphere.. THIS WAS NOT the case at the YMCA.. people stuck to them selves.. Overall a very negative experience.. The construction (albeit out of there control) did not add to the trip..
I suppose if you want to be left alone and not make connections and pay 2/3 more for a room .. maybe it's a good choice..
