Didnt enjoy this hotel at all - couples
Upon arrival, we checked in and went to our room. Everything seemed fine until we used the shower on the 5th floor—room 1512, if I recall correctly. The shower was a nightmare, constantly alternating between scalding hot and freezing cold. I reported this to the hotel, but nothing was done. We considered requesting a different room but didn’t bother because we were out exploring Istanbul during the day and doubted we’d get a comparable room.
The breakfast restaurant downstairs had a decent variety, but they don’t check which room you’re from. It felt incredibly insecure, as anyone could just walk in and help themselves, even if they hadn’t booked the extra breakfast service.
The worst part? I strongly believe £40 went missing from my bag, which I left inside the cupboard. After accounting for all receipts and currency exchanges, I still can’t figure out where it went. I know I only take a specific amount of money out with me to convert. I don’t have proof, but I can only assume someone with access to our room took it. I mentioned this to the desk upon check-out, and all they could do was apologize and waive the cost of a small chocolate bar from the minibar. Gee, thanks.
Lastly, during checkout and en-route to Istanbul Airport, we booked the private hire taxi service again. We ended up waiting over an hour—this really annoyed me as I was hoping to spend that extra hour at the airport looking around. What really irked me to the nth degree was when our receptionist called our taxi driver, and he told them, “I’m stuck in a lot of traffic, just tell them I’m 7 minutes away.” Little did they know my wife speaks and understands Turkish—not her native tongue—and she heard this. She didn’t tell me at the time, and as you can expect, the receptionist relayed that message. My wife didn’t mention this at the time because she felt reassured he was indeed 7 minutes away, but no, that 7 minutes turned into an hour!
Eventually, another receptionist came in (possibly back from break) and took over, helping with the taxi. The taxi driver, for the record, was the biggest clown I met in Istanbul, and I don’t mean that politely. Thankfully, this new receptionist helped, and I had no choice but to dig into my pocket to see what change I had. I only had 50 lira left, so I gave that to him.
Would I recommend this hotel to my fellow Brits? Absolutely not. Would I use this hotel again? No way.
